Volunteering

We are always looking for committed and reliable volunteers.  Volunteering at our shelter is very rewarding and it’s a great feeling to know you are making a positive difference in the life of a homeless animal. If you have some time to give, please consider joining our team of volunteers.

Volunteer opportunities vary and so do the time commitments. Whether you want to walk dogs, provide translations, help with fundraisers or even do some general repairs around the shelter, we’d love to hear from you.  Please see the volunteer needs below for more information about how you can help.

Walking Dogs: If you live (or have a country house) near the shelter and would like to become a dog walker, we can definitely use your help. Our dogs have big outdoor runs but they look forward to their daily walks and love having playtime in our large fenced in dog park. Our walkers play a critical role in ensuring our dogs are happy, well exercised and stress free. Most of our walkers commit to a weekly schedule but others come less frequently. We also have opportunities for short term replacements when a volunteer walker is away.

Socializing Cats: Most of our cats are friendly, playful and outgoing and thrive on attention but others are a little shy and benefit greatly from some quiet one-on-one interactions. Some love to play, others prefer to sit on your lap. Our cat volunteers make a huge difference in the quality of life our cats. Happy cats are healthy cats. We welcome volunteers with kids (8 and up).

General Repairs:  If you can offer your expertise in general repairs, there are often minor (and sometimes major) repairs that need to be done. Let us know if you are willing to help and when repairs are needed, we can work out a schedule that suits your availability.

Transport: If you have a little time on your hands and are willing to share the backseat of your car with a dog or cat(s) we often require transport of animals to and from our vet. On occasion, we are in need of a driver who is willing to pick up and transport an animal to our shelter. Transport is on an as needed basis and dependent on your availability.

Events / Fundraisers: We hold a variety of events each year and are always looking for new and energetic volunteers. From helping sell raffle tickets to being an event coordinator, we have a range of opportunities available.  Do you have an idea for an event or fundraiser and are you willing to take the lead?  We would love to hear from you to discuss how we can help make it happen.

Photography: Having great photos of our animals really helps with adoption. If you are willing to come to the shelter every now and again to photograph our adoptable cats and dogs, please let us know your availability and we’ll be happy to set something up. If you are a professional photographer, we will provide a link to your business website.

Translation: We always need help with translations from English to French. Most translations are short (average 50-300 words). We have many French speaking supporters and whenever possible, would love to offer our cat and dog bios and facebook posts in both English and French. When you sign up, you can just let us know how much time you are willing/able to spend and most translations will not require an immediate turn around.
