About Our Shelter

The Frontier Animal Society (SAFAS) provides a safe and caring environment for our adoptable dogs and cats while they await their forever homes. For updates on our adopted animals please visit our facebook page.

We are located in Ogden, Quebec just a few minutes from the Vermont border. We are about 1.5 hours from Montreal, 45 minutes from Sherbrooke and 2 hours from Burlington. At any one time the shelter is home to 10-12 dogs and 20-25 cats.

Our shelter is a registered charity and we run entirely on donations. Donations of any amount are always appreciated and all donations of $20.00 or more are tax deductible.

Caring for our Dogs

While in our care, our primary goal is to ensure that our dogs are happy and as stress free as possible. Our dogs are taken out for daily walks and have access to large outdoor runs (where they have shelter from the cold and rain). They are kennelled indoors only at night or when too cold to be outdoors for long periods. We also have a large fenced in dog park where they can play and interact with volunteers and get some one-on-one attention. While at the shelter, when possible, our dogs also have the opportunity to socialize with other dogs.

All of our dogs are sterilized, microchipped and up-to-date with basic vaccines.

Caring for our Cats

Our cat facilities include one large room and several smaller rooms where cats are free to roam. In the warmer months, the large cat room opens up to an outdoor “catio” where they love to lounge in the sunshine. We are always looking for volunteers to spend time with our cats to ensure they are happy and well socialized. They have comfy beds, scratching posts and lots of opportunity to climb. We also have two quarantine rooms for young kittens and new arrivals. When possible, young kittens are transferred to foster homes.

All of our cats are sterilized and up-to-date with basic vaccines. They are also tested for feline leukaemia and FIV.

To meet our adoptable cats, we encourage you to attend our cat adoption open house which takes place at the shelter every Saturday from 10 a.m to noon. Otherwise, visits are by appointment only which can be arranged by sending us an email or calling the shelter at 819.876.7785.
